Mid Season Review

A season of ups and downs is what is expected when playing in the strongest division.
Our position on the ladder leaves us behind the eight-ball but there are many positives.
Recruits Xavier Dimasi and Mitchell Andrews have been standouts in the seniors this year while the return of club legend Jeremy Page to the Reserves has assisted in a mixture of young and older players gain outstanding improvement.
Our Under 19′s consist of mainly bottom age players and there recent 4-5 weeks have seen outstanding improvement from the first 5 rounds.
This is all pointing in the right direction in terms of player development however the senior group have struggled since round 2 to be in a winning position which leaves a lot work to do.

The Story so far…

The season started on a high with our first win over Heidelberg in our history but since that win we have had some close games against some quality opponents and some disappointing performances where we haven’t been competitive enough.
After 10 rounds we find ourselves with a fight on our hands to stay up in the top division but Jimmy and his team will no doubt be doing their best to find the wins we need.
The second half of the year see’s us play the bulk of our games away from the showgrounds and with some returning players it’ll take a 180 degree turn in form to see the desired results.

The Reserves league is one of the closest Reserves comps seen in division 1 for a number of years with each week throwing up many games decided by only a few goals.
Our boys have been involved in a number of close games with our goal conversions being an important factor in those games.
Going forward, Reserves Coach Glen Lehner believes that a four quarter performance from his side will see them defeat any side in the league, this was evident in the weekend’s match which saw the boys leading West Preston with minutes to go only to let the game go in the final stages.
There is no doubt the young group will learn from these close games and as some players make there return to the senior group through the seconds in the coming weeks the boys well enjoy a more settled side relying less on some of the 19s boys doubling up.
Prestopino’s efforts down forward see’s him leading the goal kicking for the season while great seasons from some older stalwarts and young guns see us in the finals race.

Under 19′s
A frustrating first half of the season has seen the young group miss out on wins in close finishes but the last few weeks have seen them turn the corner and it’s a strong belief amongst the group that the second half of the year will see an increase in success with more results going our way.
With many players playing in both the Seniors and the Reserves and players from the Under 17s helping out the group hasn’t been as settled and well manned as Chris Horman would hope but the outlook going forward should see an improvement all around.
Chris and the football department are excited watching this team which consists of a mix of under 19s and under 17s players, these players are the future of our proud club and there development is important and exciting.
The Under 19 draw differs to the senior and reserves draw.
Below are the next 6 games-
- Greensborough Home
- Northcote Park Away
- Montmorency Away
- St Mary’s Home
- Bundoora Away
- Macleod Away

The Netball teams have grown as the season goes on, the grading games seen them dominate which meant they were placed in higher grade in the season proper. Playing at a higher level has only seen these teams improve which has them both well placed in the top half of the ladder where they can have a tilt at the finals series.
Jade a newcomer to the club has the girls going in a united unit playing with spirit and determination, with the help of Mandy the netball teams are best placed to taste success.
Amy Goodwin has dominated the year leading the next best goal scorer by 88 goals thus far this season
