Justin Sherman to Retire at End of Season

Sad news this week as Justin Sherman announced that he will be hanging up the boots at the end of the season.

Shermo joined the Eagles in 2016 as a playing assistant coach, after steering Kyabram to the 2015 grand final. At the time he said that the Eagles would be the last club he played for.

Before coming to Whittlesea, Shermo’s post-AFL career has included stints at Williamstown, Pascoe Vale and Kyabram.

Having played 138 AFL games, he was initially recruited as the number 45 draft pick in the 2004 AFL draft from Clarence. He made his debut for the Brisbane Lions in round 4, 2005 against Hawthorn.

In only his second season of AFL football, Shermo was voted runner-up in the Brisbane Lions best and fairest award. After 5 years with the Lions, he was traded to the Western Bulldogs in 2010, playing his last AFL match in 2012.

Shermo has been a pivotal figure in both his playing and coaching roles since joining the Eagles. His knowledge of the game and his ability to mentor our developing group has been valuable and he has proven to be a match winner for us on game day with his ability to lead, read the play and create numerous scoring opportunities.

To say that Shermo will be missed is an understatement but you can’t help the feeling that with four rounds remaining, he will play a major role in the Eagles keeping their spot in Division 1.

Thanks for everything Worm.
