Coach Jim Atkin’s thoughts.

A hard loss to take.  We only played well for two quarters and then the game was there to be won and we couldn’t finish it off.  We will learn from it.

Notable players/ passages of play:
Jay Russell, Tommy Falls, Justin Sherman.

What positives do you take from today’s game:

We have another 17 games… we move on and look forward to next week.

Anything the players/ coaches need to work on in preparation for next week:

Must prepare for next week and be ready for another challenge.

And finally how do you think we will match up against Bundoora next week:

They have picked up some good players but they’re a side we match up well against.  If we play 4 quarters we will be right there at the end of the match.

Reserves:

Whittlesea           3.3-21    8.5-53    12.6-78  20.13-133

Montmorency      1.3-9      2.4-16    2.5-17    7.9-51

Goal Kickers: M. Brennan 4, M. Taplin 3, L. Crowley 3, B. Briffa 3, J. Dyson 2, J. Barnes 2, N. Tassell, J. Chatley, S. Dempsey

Best Players: M. Taplin, M. Brennan, L. Crowley, J. Barnes, N. Tassell

Coach Mark Allen’s thoughts.

I’m really happy with today’s game. The boys came out to play. Their effort for four quarters, I could not fault.

Notable players/ passages of play:
Great to see Jake Chatley back playing fantastic footy. Crowley also playing well, as we know he loves hard, tough footy. Mitch Taplin playing a great captains game also, with three goals.

What positives do you take from today’s game:
Plenty of positives today – playing four quarters, attack on the contest, tackle effort and playing to our game plan.

Anything the players/ coaches need to work on in preparation for next week:
A weeks rest then Bundoora away is always a tough game. We need to keep our intensity up.

And finally how do you think we will match up against Bundoora next week:
We have a good group. I think we will match up well.

Under 19’s:

 Whittlesea           1.2-8      2.4-16    7.7-49    8.7-55

Montmorency      1.2-8      3.5-23    4.8-32    5.10-40

Goal Kickers: C. Prestopino 5, K. Smith, R. Carter, T. Meiselbach

Best Players: J. Eid, C. McLean, C. Prestopino, B. Caldow, T. Meiselbach, C. Taplin

Coach Chris Horman’s thoughts.

Super proud of the boys and really pleased to get on the board with a win in round 1.

Notable players/ passages of play:
Everybody played their role today – 19 contributors across the park.  Special mention top Presti for his 5 goals and to Tyson for his 150m sprint down the wing making an option and finishing with a great goal.

What positives do you take from today’s game:

The intensity and effort over 4 quarters was huge.  Every player had multiple tackles and their attack on the ball was awesome.

Anything the players/ coaches need to work on in preparation for next week:
Just continuing to work on our set ups.  We gave away a couple of easy clearances and our zone on kick ins broke down a couple of times.

And finally how do you think we will match up against Bundoora next week:
I think that the extra week off will give us a chance to get a couple back from injury/holiday and we will only be stronger and better.
